The Bad Guy List gives descriptions of men who have attacked or otherwise harmed women on the streets of Albuquerque.

The Salon will be a "safe haven" daytime center for women on the street where they can grab a cup of coffee and find out about services offered by us and our sister nonprofits.

SELF-DEFENSE TOOLS

Women who live on the street are in constant danger of attack from all corners, so we make non-lethal gadgets — such as pepper spray and defensive jewelry — to help them protect themselves.

STREET OUTREACH

We take the time to get to know women on the street during weekly outreaches, where we set up shop on a curb and hand out clothing, shampoo, conditioner, feminine hygiene supplies, and other basic necessities of life. This one-on-one approach gives trafficking victims the chance they need to come forward in a safe environment.

As you might have guessed, Street Safe isn't like most other nonprofits. But what is it that sets us apart? One key difference is most of our volunteers having been either in the sex trade or on the streets.

Our co-founder, Cindy Vigil Jaramillo, had been living on the streets of Albuquerque since she was 12. So she had already seen and endured a lot before being kidnapped by the Toy Box serial killer.

Selling sex on the street is as close to "survival of the fittest" as you will find in the U.S. And it's not just us saying that. It's the data.

MEN WHO BUY SEX ON THE STREET

About 13% of all men will buy sex at some point in their lives, making you wonder why they do it and other men don't?

If you got into cars with strangers every day knowing you could be raped or killed by any of them at any moment, you'd want to be in an altered state, too.

The vast majority of women selling sex on the street are homeless, living in a motel room one night then the next in an abandoned house or tent pitched in an empty lot.
